Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is one of the seven emirates
that constitute the United Arab
Emirates. It is the capital of United
Arab Emirates and largest emirate by
area
(67,340 kms²), accounting for
approximately 86% of the total land area
of the UAE.
Abu Dhabi possesses 10% of the world's
oil 5% of its gas reserves, and produces
90% of oil in the U.A.E. The generated
income has been purposely invested to
create a first class infrastructure and
flourishing modern metropolis.
Abu Dhabi offers a variety of beautiful
landscapes. Lush and verdant with large
gardens and parks it is known as the
Green State whilst also being the
location of the world's largest sand
dunes. In addition there are nearly
200 islands around Abu Dhabi, offering
some of the most natural untouched
beaches in the region.

Abu Dhabi Economy
Abu Dhabi experiences a rapidly growing
economy with a high GDP and per capita
income. It is not only the wealthiest
emirate of the UAE but also qualifies as
one of the wealthiest cities in the
world. Abu Dhabi’s GDP has reached above
$100 billion in 2007, a huge leap from a
mere $40 billion in 2002, and
considering it only has a population of
around 1.6 million. Abu Dhabi’s GDP per
capita income also nearly touched the
$70,000 mark which is far above the
average income of the United Arab
Emirates itself and it ranks third in
the world after Luxembourg and Norway.

Tourism
Various
local and international hotels have been
developed widely throughout Abu Dhabi to
meet the demands of tourism in the
capital city. Ranging from boutique to 5
and 6 star hotels, international brands
from all over the world have set up in
this modern oasis.

Social
Environment
Abu Dhabi is a very family oriented
city. Placing emphasis on tradition and
family has kept the pace of life in Abu
Dhabi at a moderate level.
There are activities for people of all
ages in Abu Dhabi, mainly based around
family. Clubs such as Equestrian, Marine
sports, Golf and general sports clubs
encourage healthy physical activity.
Cultural foundations teach locals and
foreigners alike about the heritage of
the UAE and life in the past.
Gourmet restaurants and cafes are spread
widely throughout Abu Dhabi enabling the
different cultures living in this city
to sample different international and
local cuisines.
Shopping is one of the main activities
as many famous brands from all over the
world have set up branches in this
growing city. As Abu Dhabi has developed
many parks, children's playgrounds are
widely accessible. Places such as the
famous newly renovated Corniche have
provided all members of the family with
exercise opportunities; children play
grounds, relaxing cafes and more.
Plan Abu Dhabi 2030: Urban Structure
Framework Plan
The
Government of Abu Dhabi has unveiled
Plan Abu Dhabi 2030: Urban Structure
Framework Plan, a comprehensive plan for
the development of the city of Abu Dhabi
that will guide planning decisions for
the next quarter of a century.
The Government also announced the
establishment of a new Urban Planning
Council to oversee the implementation of
the plan and the further development of
urban planning policy.

Plan Abu
Dhabi 2030: Urban Structure Framework
Plan has been created to deliver upon
the vision of His Highness Sheikh
Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President
of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, for
the continued fulfilment of the grand
design envisaged by the late Sheikh
Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the
ongoing evolution of Abu Dhabi as a
global capital city.
Through ten individual policy
statements, the plan specifies land
uses, building heights and
transportation plans for the entire
metropolitan area of Abu Dhabi. Under
the plan, the city is projected to grow
to over three million people by 2030. As
such, the plan provides for large new
areas of Emirati housing, inspired by
the traditional family structures of the
local community, and a diverse mix of
affordable housing options for all the
citizens and residents of Abu Dhabi.
