United Arab
Emirates Property Tax
UAE Has
the Lowest Tax Rates in
the World
Although there is a
distinct absence of tax
in the UAE, it pays to
understand any potential
liabilities prior to
making the decision to
purchase.
In common with most
Middle Eastern states,
the government of the
UAE receives the vast
majority of its revenue
from oil and tax is not
applicable. Expatriates
living in the UAE and
UAE nationals are all
assessed in the same
way, but it is important
that, if you are an
expatriate moving to the
UAE, you review your
finances with a
well-qualified financial
advisor.

“Workers seeking out the
lowest tax rates in the
world should head to
Dubai, Russia or Hong
Kong, according to a
league table of the
world’s most attractive
personal tax hot spots.”
Residents in the United
Arab Emirates (UAE)
receive the highest net
income at 95 per cent of
their gross salary,
while expatriates in
Russia and Hong Kong pay
13 per cent and 14.2 per
cent in tax
respectively, according
to Mercer, the business
consultancy behind the
survey.
Married people with
children almost
universally pay the
least tax, followed by
married people with no
children. Single workers
foot the biggest tax
bills across the world,
the figures showed.
The UAE ranks highly
because it does not
apply any income tax at
all and only levies a
charge of 5 per cent in
social security
contributions on local
citizens. Russia applies
a flat income tax of 13
per cent, while Hong
Kong applies a rate of
14.2 per cent in tax and
social security
contributions.
The UAE is completely
free of Individual
Income Tax; Investment
Income Tax; Wealth Tax;
Capital Gains Tax;
Inheritance and Gift
Tax; Property Tax; Stamp
Duty; Transfer Tax and
VAT. Some of the
emirates may charge some
tax on certain luxury
products, such as
alcoholic drinks and
cigarettes, when
supplied to the
hospitality industry.
As an expatriate, in
order to manage your tax
liability and control
when tax charges are
levied, you may wish to
consider offshore
investments and life
products. Your
independent financial
adviser can help you
maximise the financial
benefits of your
expatriate status as
well as assess if
offshore life products
are the right ones for
your individual
circumstances.
